Karen Ruth Thomas

Memorial services for Karen Ruth Thomas, 74, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2022, at Eastside Baptist Church, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Andrew Donaldson will officiate.  Services will conclude at the church.  Karen Thomas passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

Karen was born on November 13, 1947, in Cairo, GA, to the late Roy Kelsie and Myrtice Green Thomas.   She retired from the Accounts Management Department of Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.  Karen attended many churches over her life due to her father’s ministerial duties.  As an adult she attended Pine Park Baptist Church and later in life became a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church.  Karen was an avid gardener and bird watcher.  Her roses were featured in arrangements in the Thomasville Rose Show.  She loved to sew and bake for any project her beloved Sunday School class had undertaken.  She was known as the “second mother” for many cousins and family friends.

Survivors include: daughters, Kim Atwood (Aaron) of Jefferson City, MO, Kendra Butler of Bainbridge, GA; grandchildren, Grace Atwood and Alden Atwood, both of Jefferson City, MO; sister, Joyce Herndon (Wayne) of Cairo, GA, brother, Allen Thomas (Lana) of Dublin, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Roy and Myrtice Thomas, brother, Tim Thomas, granddaughter, Makayla Atwood, and a special great-aunt, Scottie Bruton.

Memorials may be made in Ms. Thomas’ memory to: Miss Kitty Feline Sanctuary, 425 Covington Ave., Thomasville, GA  31792.

The family will receive friends at Eastside Baptist Church on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary.
