James Leroy “Jimmy” Mitchell
January 2, 1929 – December 17, 2015

Funeral services for James Leroy ”Jimmy” Mitchell, 86, of Cairo, GA, are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 20, 2015, at the Cairo Presbyterian Church, Cairo, GA. Rev. Becky Willis will officiate. Services will conclude at the church. Private interment will be in the Godwin Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Mitchell passed away at his daughter’s home in Grady County, GA, on Thursday, December 17, 2015.

Active pallbearers will be Tom Taylor III, Troy Taylor, Ben Marrett, Carlton Collins, John Henry Mitchell and Carroll Hopkins.

Mr. Mitchell was born on January 2, 1929, in Cairo, GA, to the late Albert Leroy Mitchell and Fannie Mae Hall Mitchell. He served his country in the U. S. Navy. In May of 1976, he married Justine Mitchell, who survives. He worked for many years with Cairo Sales in Cairo and later was self-employed as a produce grower and salesman. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was a member of the Lions Club, a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge and the Cairo Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: wife, Justine Mitchell of Houston, TX; daughter, Diane Taylor (Tom) of Cairo, GA; step-daughters, Tammy Bearden (Steve) of Tallahassee, FL, Tina Winsett of Kyle, TX; grandchildren, Tori Taylor Marrett (Ben) of Clermont, FL, Tom Taylor, III (Jamie) of Sanford, FL, Troy Taylor (Amanda) of Cairo, GA; step-grandchildren, Nicole Winsett of Kyle, TX, Brooke Winsett of Kyle, TX; great-grandson, Jacob Mitchell Taylor of Sanford, FL; step-great-granddaughter, June Kapaldo of Kyle, TX; brothers, Bobby Mitchell (Jean) of Cairo, GA, Hershel Mitchell (Lucille) of Fort Mead, Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, son, Jimmy Leslie “PeeWee” Mitchell, the mother of his children, Betty Sue Crew Mitchell, brothers, W. H. Mitchell, Roscoe Mitchell, Wendell Mitchell, Preston Mitchell; and sisters, Fannie Myrtle Hall, Clara Mae Collins.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Mitchell’s memory to: the Cairo Presbyterian Church, 100 4th Ave. SE, Cairo, GA 39828.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the Fellowship Hall of the Cairo Presbyterian Church.
