Evelyn Chason Nelson
January 18, 1934 – August 8, 2019

Funeral services for Evelyn Chason Nelson, 85, are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, GA. Rev. Bob Jernigan, of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Blackshear, will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mrs. Nelson passed away following an extended illness at her daughter’s home in Blackshear, GA, on Thursday morning, August 8, 2019.

Active pallbearers will be Wade Nelson, Brandon Lee, Jeff Williams, Mike Thomas, Gary Nelson, Scott Nelson and Matthew Day.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Whigham, GA, and lived in Calvary, GA, for most of her life. She has lived in Blackshear, GA for the past three years. On October 2, 1944, she married Willard Leroy Nelson, who preceded her in death on April 8, 1992. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. She served as a loving and faithful caregiver to many residents in her local community. As her health permitted, she enjoyed being outside working in the yard and enjoying her roses. Evelyn was a member of Pine Hill Holiness Church, Cairo, GA, and also attended St. Johns United Methodist Church while residing in Blackshear, Georgia.

She is survived by: two daughters, Dianne Vinson (Douglas) of Waycross, GA, Kathy Lee (Bobby) of Blackshear, GA; three sons, Raymond Nelson (Peggy) of Calvary, GA, Bruce Nelson (Betty) of Calvary, GA, Tony Nelson (Vicky) of Lehigh Acres, FL; and one daughter-in-law, Donna Barfield Nelson of Havana, FL. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Willard Nelson; parents, Marvin Owen Chason and Nettie Claud Hurst Chason; two sons, Wallace Nelson, Leroy Nelson; six brothers, Ed Chason, Bill Chason, Buford Chason, Donald Chason, Earl Chason, Marvin Chason, Jr.; and two sisters, Augustine Rowland, Neal Williams.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Nelson’s memory to: Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, GA 31501; Pine Hill Holiness Church, 2896 Lower Hawthorne Trail, Cairo, GA 39828; or St. John’s United Methodist Church, 4363 St. John’s Church Road, Blackshear, GA 31516.

Visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Home immediately following the funeral service.
