Doris Evelyn Alligood
November 2, 1925 – March 18, 2021

Funeral services for Doris Evelyn Alligood, 95, of New Smyrna Beach, FL are on Thursday, March 25, 2021, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA.  Rev. Chris Allen will officiate.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Thomasville, GA.  Mrs. Alligood passed away in New Smyrna Beach on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

Mrs. Alligood was born to Edgar and Jewell Robinson in Grady County, GA on November 2, 1925.  She was a loving wife to Reverend George A. Downs (deceased) and she was blessed with children, Donald E. Downs (deceased) and Paula O’Brien (husband Michael).  She also leaves behind: her grandchildren, Donald Downs, Jr., Amy Downs, Tony Downs, and Michelle Downs; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Downs, Trinity Downs, Genesis Downs, and William Trigg.  She is also survived by her brother, Julian Robinson (wife Withla).  She was preceded in death by brothers, Dewey Robinson and Tommy Robinson and sister, Sara Thomas.

Later, Doris married a former high school classmate, Roger A. Alligood, who had 4 children:  Kenneth Alligood (wife Pam), Denise Hauenstein (husband Don), Steve Alligood (wife Teresa), and Susan Morgan (husband Fred) and 10 grandchildren.  Doris loved and treated those as her own.

Doris was a trained vocalist in sacred music and shared her talents from an early age.  She sang in evangelistic revivals with her husband George, directed choirs, and sang solo in the churches where he was pastor.  She was manager of alterations in high fashion stores in Winter Park and Orlando, FL for many years.  After moving to Warner Robins, GA, she became active in missions work.  She was also a women’s Sunday School Bible teacher for many years.  While living in Cairo, GA, she was very active in First Baptist Church.  She then moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL to spend her final years with her daughter.
