Annelle Walters
April 26, 1935 – May 23, 2022

Annelle Walters, 87, of Cairo, GA passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, ending an extended illness.  Ms. Walters’ faithful caregivers were at her bedside when the quiet and peaceful end came.  In accordance with her wishes, her mortal remains have been cremated and will be mixed with those of her late sister, Mary Wyatt, and delivered to her nephew and heir, Whitney B. Wyatt, as a remembrance.

Ms. Walters was born on April 26, 1935, in Amarillo, TX, the second daughter of Louis Christopher Walters and Jonnie Mobley Walters.  When she was ten, the family moved to Vancouver, WA, where Annelle attended and graduation from the public school system.  She earned a B.A. degree and a Master’s Degree in Early childhood Education at Lewis and Clark College, Portland, OR, and taught for 30 years in the Vancouver schools, where she was honored as a “Master Teacher,” the system’s highest award.  She moved to Cairo in 1995 to live near her sister in retirement and started a thriving business as an expert seamstress.  Annelle was a generous person in both her work as a seamstress, making and/or altering many prom and the event dresses without charge for indigent girls, and in giving liberally to help people recover from storm and tornado damage.  She was a Baptist who lived her faith in quiet grace.

Ms. Walters was preceded in death by her parents and sister.  She leaves the following to cherish her memory: a special cousin, Elaine Vanwoudenberg of Bellingham, WA, and Elaine’s daughter and grandson, Teresa Weikel and Stephen Weikel, both of Austin, TX; special friends, Sarah Timmerman and Carol Holt, both of Cairo, GA; loving caregivers, Carol Holt, Doris Miley of Thomasville, GA and Sharon Jewel of Thomasville, GA; her beloved feline companion, Howie of Cairo; and a brother-in-law, James Wyatt of Cairo.
